Album 9
(16 May to 15 July 1997)

The first thing that happened to me in Ethiopia is that a guy gave me
a ride from the airport and bought me a cappuccino. Cool!

The second thing that happened to me is that I got ripped off during an
"Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony" which traditionally is a hospitable
greeting for guests but ended up costing me $20! Not-so-cool!

After that lesson, I was more cautious and discovered that
most of the people were wonderful (or perhaps curious).

I wondered around Addis Ababa

and saw some interesting stuff - like this "Da Vinci" that the Ethiopians
are keeping safe until the Italians return some artifacts they stole...

The city is boring (and dangerous), so I went north.

to the stone-cut churches at Lailbella

the "falls that smoke"

(notice how dirty the tourists are vs. the locals!)

and saw some lovely people.

Then I crossed into Eritrea, a different place, with different culture.

(Karen)

After that, I caught a flight to Yemen, or
"Felix" (Happy) Arabia. Man - what a country!

Exotic villages,

cool kids,

photogenic people,

in the desert,

by the sea,

and in the towns.

That was just a sample. I could post many weird-o-fantabulous pix.

Sorry - it's that time again. Back to Africa and just 17 to go!
