Kill Your Status Quo

Album 16
(5 August to 9 September 1998)

Pakistan and India are a very different part of the world.
They are over-populated and under-educated, mortal enemies and lovers of cricket.

But first we had to get past the landslide!

We made it to Hunza Valley, in Northern Pakistan

in time for Sandra's birthday

(Brett, me, S, Stephan, Alex)

and then headed down-country, to the heat and the masses

(and cows).

In Deeg, we saw the tribesmen making guns
(they are the suppliers of Mujadeen in Afghanistan
and not controlled by the Pakistan government).

They love cricket more than their Moghul Fort

and movies about the same!

We passed into India in torrential rain.

Amritsar is the Sikh holy place.

(in the kitchen: "millions served" - for free)

Lake Dal in Kashmir is beautiful and relaxing

but don't ruin their culture with gifts of any sort - PLEASE

In Leh, we saw the sights,

a mandala ceremony,

and kids!

"We" included Ingmar, Mia and Peter.

We headed overland to Manali, but were caught (in typical Indian fashion)
at 5500m for the night. Coming from 3300m, this is very dangerous.
Sandra came off with only AMS - no permanent damage - luckily.

Next: more of India
(Just 10 to go!)
