Kill Your Status Quo

Album 10
(6 July to 9 September 1997)

So - back in Ethiopia, where my health and the living standards dropped,
I headed south, thru some small villages,

lively markets (this is the bar)

and remnants of the Marxist regime

to Kenya, an ex-colony with a very different feel.

I headed to Lamu, to visit a different culture

and see the festival.

(this is the winner of the boat race being swamped by fans - a pyrrhic victory?)

Lamu is a nice place, but the number of tourists means that there are "beach boys"
willing to entertain foreign women - for either money, sex or visa

After that, I "climbed" Mt Kenya, the 2nd highest peak in Africa (4.900m)

On the way back down, I met some Americans

They brought cigars, a CD player (and speakers) and take-away Indian food.
I guess that's living rough!

Next, I flew (well -rode in a plane) to Madagascar, or Mad.

it's an ex-French colony

with lovely girls eager to meet foreigners who are a combination of African and Indonesian.
One French lad said "bringing your girlfriend to Mad is like
taking food to the restaurant." I didn't get involved - no challenge ;-)

There were other attractions. The sea,

The lemurs,

and the sheer beauty.

Some things weren't attractive

and others were just crazy

After Mad (while there actually), I got my "last call" from Sandra
and off I went - double-quick - to Europe. The rest of Africa will have to wait.

I had a bit of a culture shock - seeing the German transvestites
right after the tribal people of Africa, but I managed to adjust...

... and we got to go to Bosnia (Just 16 to go!)
